"The Raven"

In Ms. Huck class I read a poem named "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe is a famous writer. He wrote many different kind of short stories and poem in his life. The poem name "The Raven" is about the one dark December night, the man felt so sad about his dead girlfriend, he was in his room reading a book and he heard a rapping on his door. When he opened the door, nobody was there. He thinks that "Lenore" has come back. When the second time he heard the rapping, he opened the door but he saw a raven, the raven fly in his room and sat on the head of a statue over the door. The raven didn’t want to leave his room and answered "nevermore".

The mood of "The Raven" is melancholy. In this poem the author used many different kinds of poetic device such as assonance "One upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary". This first stanza of the poem is kind of like a fairy tale. And he used rhyme and alliteration in the poem, like "Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before". Also the author use repetition in it, like the word "more" for use for many time at the end of every stanza.

After I read this poem I liked the author used repetition in this poem and at every stanza, it ends with more. I think the words and the ways they sound ate ancient writing, so the words were difficult and sound funny. I think the rhyme scheme fit the mood of the poem. For example on first stanza, "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume have forgotten love".
